Well another season of cricket has passed by and unfortunately this year neither of our sides made the finals. A grade got frustratingly close missing out by only 0.025% from 4th spot. Well done to all players who played for the Dragons this year and a special thank you to all of the SGCC Player raffle ticket holders for supporting the club.
ROUND 14:
The last round of the season saw the illustrious Jeff Kahl taking top prize. I can hear him saying “About time I won something in that player raffle!” The second prize of $30 will be paid out to Rajesh Kumar.

An ex-President came out on top in Round 13 to claim the $80 prize with second prize of $30 being shared between Dave Baum and the syndicate of Nicola Black & Robyn Crisp.

ROUND 12:
The ticket held by the mighty club St George Cricket Club takes out its own player raffle prize for this round winning $80 into the club coffers. Second prize goes to our Club President who claims $30.

ROUND 11:
A grade played North Haven batting first and posted 171 with the top scorer playing his first game for A grade was Dave Stevens with a score of 57. This score was nowhere near enough with North Haven hitting 4/194 off 31 overs and declaring. In the 2nd innings 7/166 was scored with Dave Stevens again showing the way with a score of 61 posting his 2nd half century for the game. This loss was a setback in the hunt for a finals berth. The B grade played Mitchell Park and also had to bat twice. Batting first they managed to post 146 runs with Kumar top scoring with 37 runs. In reply Mitchell Park smashed 5/246 off 42 overs. In second innings the boys played to avoid an outright posting 4/51.
RAFFLE WINNERS: Jimmy Walker easily won the $80 prize with his score of 153 thanks mainly to Dave Stevens two half centuries. I snuck in for second prize of $30 with a score of 106.

ROUND 10
A grade played against Warradale and notched up another win in the one- dayer. Warradale batted first posting a score of 161 with Andrew Broomhead being the standout bowler with 4 wickets from his 8 overs. St George won the match losing 7 wickets along the way, Antony Baum top scored with 39 runs. The B grade played Coro Ramblers and started well to bowl out the opposition for 123 with the wickets shared across a number of players. Dave Stevens was the best bowler with 2/14 from 8 overs. Unfortunately the wheels fell off when the boys batted and were rolled for only 91.
RAFFLE WINNERS: Layton Gould just snuck home with a score of 99 points to score himself $80 from the Kartik Ensemble syndicate on 98 points who claim $30.

A grade posted 6/248 in one dayer against South Road with main run scorers being Gould 76, Walker and Bullock both making 39 and Scott Keeley on his way to an unbeaten century before his knee let him down and he had to retire hurt on 4. In reply South Road could only manage 84 runs with Kumar taking 3 wickets.
B grade was up against it after the opposition posted 8/292 and in reply only got to 106. Jarrod Ramage took 3 wickets whilst Hodge and Winning were main run makers with 31 and 29.
The Johnson brothers (Andrew and Nathan) take home another raffle prize for themselves with this being their third collect for the year. Their players scored 107 points for them to beat Rajesh Kumar with a score of 99. The Johnsons will receive $160 and Rajesh takes away $60 due to last round jackpotting.

Round 6 (just like Round 5) was not a good round for the Dragons – 1 close game but unfortunately two losses.
A grade batted first against Keswick and struggled early before some consolidation in the middle order. The main run maker was Kevin Winning with a very well compiled unbeaten 71 which helped the side reach a score of 232. In week 2 there were some early wickets but things didn’t go to plan the rest of the day with dropped catches, misfields, near misses of run-outs and possible dodgy umpire decisions being the themes of the day. The end result was that Keswick passed our score with 2 wickets in hand in the final over of the day.
B grade bowled first in their game against Cove and unfortunately only one wicket fell before they declared at 1/230. In reply St George fell well short to be bowled out for 60 in their first innings and managed to see off the threat of an outright ending up 9/48 at close of day 2. Nathan Johnson scored 27 in the first innings and Shane Daly also batted well to stick around and see off a number of overs.

The Johnson Brothers snared their second collect for the year taking home $80 whilst an ex-President (Paul Teesdale-Smith) puts $30 into his retirement kitty.

Unfortunately Round 5 saw both sides lose their games in very close finishs.
A grade bowled first against Belair and the opposition managed to notch 199 with main wicket takers being Andy Farrell and Matt Broomhead. In reply St George could only manage 180 to fall short by 19 runs. Main scorers were Layton Gould with 33 and Jimmy Walker 32.
B grade also bowled first in their game and rolled Plympton for 123. Craig Price kept his solid season with the ball going by taking 4 wickets, Dave Stevens also chipped in with 3. At the end of day 1 St George were 3/15 and things didn’t improve on day 2 with wickets falling regularly. The boys fell agonisingly short to be bowled out for 119. Glyn Maloney played a lone hand making 39.
Hopefully round 6 sees both sides back on the winners podium.
Round 5 raffle prizes this round go to two ticket holders starting with letter ‘K’:
Kev Winning and the Kartik Ensemble (Michael Haydon & Darren Prior) both scored 92 points so will share both prizes collecting $55 for each.

Round 4 has passed with one win for A grade and a pitch affected draw for B grade.
A grade bowled first and restricted South Road to 150 runs. Steve Winning was easily the standout bowler with 6 well deserved wickets. In reply St George easily passed their score being only 2 wickets down after 37 overs. Scott Keeley 80 and Antony Baum 36 had a nice opening partnership to seal the 6 points.
An undermanned B grade batted first and could only manage 101 before the opposition batted and made 1/71. Kev Winning making 32, Nathan O’Neil 19 and Jarrod Ramage 12 were the only batsmen to reach double figures. A bit of rain on the Friday saw the pitch for the game deemed unplayable for safety reasons so what looked like an inevitable loss ended up being a draw and kept the B grade boys in the hunt for a top 4 spot. They now sit in 5th spot.

The 4 member syndicate made up of our Ex-President and some friends snared the $80 prize for round 4 beating Scott Keeley who takes home $30. Interesting to note that by scoring so many runs Scott has given away the first prize – maybe he should have stood on his stumps after making 20. With the bowling attack that the opposition threw at him that was the only way he would have gotten out on 20.

Unfortunately Round 3 saw both sides lose.
A grade had a one dayer after the pitch was under water in the first week due to rain. They batted first and made another impressive score to continue their season effort. They made 9/212 off 40 overs with the main contributors being Walker 72 and Haydon 47. In reply Warradale managed to score the required runs off the last ball of the day to get to 7/215. The main wicket takers were A.Broomhead with 2/32 and Walker with 2/45.
B grade bowled first in their game and Coromandel scored 225. Wicket takers for the day were O’neil 3/57 and Seadon 2/31. Nathan Johnson (31) and Dale Seadon got the run chase off to a good start and then the middle order collapsed before Maloney chipped in with 29, Kapoor a quickfire 27 and Andrew Johnson made a valuable 45NO. In the end the B graders fell 25 runs short to be bowled out for 200 with 5 overs to spare.
Round 3 raffle prizes this round went to the Johnsons and Johnston.
Stewart Johnston scored $80 for himself after scoring 151 points with the combination of Walker and Andrew Broomhead. The runner-up prize of $30 goes to the Johnson Brothers (Nathan and Andrew) who scored 130 points with Kev Winning and Walker

Round 2 saw A grade continue their winning form but unfortunately B grade dropped the game.
A grade batted first and made a solid score of 209 off their 40 overs with the main contributors being Walker 54, Bullock 44, Haydon 36 and Dave Baum 36. In reply North Haven could only manage 112 with Walker being the main wicket taker with 4/22.
B grade bowled first in their game and Mitchell Park posted a competitive score of 175 off their 40 overs. In reply St George were bowled out in the 33 over for 130 with only Steve Winning 58 and Brant Ramage 28 making any real contribution.
Round 2 raffle prizes this round went to Jimmy Walker who had drawn himself and Farrell to score 152 points just beating Brett Challans who had drawn Walker and Kev Winning. Jimmy collects $80 and Brett $30.

Round 1 saw two wins notched up by the Dragons.
A grade batted first and made a solid score of 247 off their 40 overs with the main contributors being Walker 97, Haydon 69, Baum A 36 and Keeley 34. In reply Morphettville Park could only manage 119 with Broomhead A being the main wicket taker with 3/7 from his 6 overs.
B grade got an unexpected win after they batted first and could only manage 95 runs - Winning K 29 and some nice batting from Johnson N 15 helping the boys reach this total. In reply Sheidow Park were in trouble early at 4/14 before they consolidated to be 4/71 but then the wheels fell off and they crumbled to be all out for 90. Chris Littleboy snagged 3 wickets but the main wicket taker was Craig “Pirate” Price who took 5 wickets including a hat-trick at the end to seal the game.
Round 1 raffle prizes go to two syndicates made up of past players or partners of past players. The second prize of $30 was won by Glendinning & Mueller who scored 129 points with Haydon & Winning K combo whilst the winning combination of Walker & Haydon with a score of 182 goes to the Ski Syndicate - so $80 will be paid to Robyn Crisp and her friend Renee Bruce to be put towards some alcohol at their next get together. Round 1
The A grade commence their season division 5 assault with the usually tricky journey to Seaview High School to take on Morphettville Park III. Meanwhile, the B grade will host Sheidow Park III at Urrbrae in a division 6 classic. Both are one day matches commencing at 1230.
Many seasons after St George CC initiated and promoted the 8 team competition with a 21 round (7 x 2 day and 7 x 1 day), it is finally here. I am sure the snail like progress the association has made on this issue has frustrated but equally sure the punters will appreciate the format.

The winner of Round 11 raffle is the syndicate of Glendenning & Mueller who scored their second collect for the season ($80) and in equal second place was Scott Keeley and the Syndicate of Teesa, Hawkins, Young & Watson who each collect $15.
The final round of the season was a one dayer and saw both grades notch up excellent wins.
A grade bowled first and rolled through the opposition for 81. The wickets were shared around by the bowlers. Their score proved to be far too little especially with the pop-gun attack they had on offer and SGCC easily passed their score only 2 wickets down with 23 overs to spare. Neil Bullock was top scorer with 28.
B grade also bowled first and restricted Coro Ramblers to a score of 140. The standout bowler was Dave Stevens who snared 4 valuable wickets. Special mention must also go to Kev Winning who contacted me after my Round 10 raffle wrap-up with some views on what I could have said…….so Kev to ensure there is no doubt about who did what in the game I will mention your bowling figures for this game. Kev bowled 4 overs and returned figures of 0/29. There is a saying - You are only as good as your last game.
The boys were cruising early with a solid opening partnership from Steve Winning (25) and Jarrod Ramage (26) before a semi collapse saw the momentum swing to the opposition but some late order batting from Chris Littleboy (29) as well as some valuable runs from Andrew Fitzroy, Nathan Johnson and Shane Daley saw the boys win with score of 9/144.
At the end of the season both grades unfortunately finished in 5th spot just missing out on finals. A grade were 5 points shy and B grade only 2 points off a finals berth – the forfeits certainly hurt B grade finals chances as we received no points for those 2 games. So again I will ask if anyone knows someone who is looking for a game of cricket please send them out our way as we need players for next season.

The winner of Round 10 raffle is John Panozzo who drew Chris Littleboy (83 points) and Scott Keeley (33 points) and in second place was Andrew Lock thanks to Chris Littleboy (83 points) and Rajesh Kumar (25 points). If only you had held those catches Rajesh!!
An overall disappointing round with the A grade boys losing the game which means their finals chances are officially over and the B grade boys needing an outright win to have any chances of finals but only managing a first innings win despite bowling the opposition out for 89 in first innings.
A grade was bowled out on the first day for only 67 and at end of play had them 2/74. South Road decided to bat on in week 2 and compiled 8/159 before declaring to go for the outright. SGCC got to 2/96 before stumps were called. Mikey Szczepanik (no that is not a typo he does have that many z’s in his name!) was the standout batter with 26 runs from the total of 67 in the first innings and the best bowler was Andrew Broomhead with 3 wickets.
B grade needed an outright and we were on our way when they batted and we got them out for 89. Unfortunately a few too many overs had passed and we only had 16 overs to bat out Day 1. We crumbled on Day 1 but then on Day 2 some solid batting from Mike Cantor with a score of 26 saw us pass their score at 7/94. Unfortunately we faced 24 overs on Day 2 so an outright was going to be a struggle but Glenelg ANA suggested they would bat 18 overs then declare and then we could try chase down their score for an outright. They made 139 runs thanks to 5 catches going down and a couple of misfields in just 18 overs. The task proved too great and we were bowled out for 89. Dale Seadon and Chris Littleboy were our best bowlers and Mike Cantor our best bat.

The winners for the player raffle for round 9 were the Ski Syndicate (Robyn Crisp & Renee Bruce) with first prize of $80 and Tony Rose claiming second prize of $30. They both can thank Craig Price for their winnings with his all-round performance with bat, ball and in the field.
This round saw the club post two wins and remain in the hunt for a finals spot (very longshot for B grade).
A grade limited Adelaide Cavaliers to a score of 9/130 and in week 2 St George easily past their score losing only 2 wickets to be 2/142 when the game was called off. Andrew Broomhead was the main wicket taker with another 4 wickets to add to his season tally whilst Steve continued to get wickets with another 3 wickets this game. Jimmy Walker was the main scorer with a half century (54 runs).
B grade bowled first and at end of day one were facing a score of 180 runs for the victory. It was a very closely fought out game with many ups and downs throughout the day before the 6 points were snared with 8 wickets lost. When the game was called off the final score was 9/189…..a very good win by the boys and a good team effort. Dale Seadon bowled very well to get 3/30 off his 15 overs and could easily have had more wickets if he didn’t drop 3 catches off his own bowling (he dropped 4 or 5 catches for the day!). Standout bowler though was Craig “I went to Gumeracha to play but missed you too much so I came back” Price who took 4 wickets and a catch before also contributing with the bat with a score of 42. The other main contributors with the bat were Neil Bullock with 38 and a new player (Dave Stevens) who made 26 when runs were desperately needed to shore things up after the loss of some quick wickets.

This round saw the club post two outright wins.
A grade bowled Sheidow Park out for 24 …YES 24. St George then batted for a handful of overs to post 0/29 before putting Sheidow back in for their second bat of the day. In the 2nd innings Sheidow managed a score of 112 off many overs before a Layton Gould led charge saw St George easily post 1/116 off not many overs to snare the maximum points. Jimmy Walker took 4 wickets in first innings and Steve Winning bagged a 5 wicket haul in 2nd innings. Not many runs were needed by us but Layton Gould managed to get himself 59 runs off probably 20 balls.
B grade had a depleted side and were undermanned but bowled the opposition out for 78 before making 4/126 by end of day 1. They declared overnight and bowled them out for 138 in 2nd innings before passing their score for outright win at 6/120. Neil Bullock got 4 wickets in first innings as well as scores of 49 and 32, whilst Matthew Nicks also chipped in with a super quick 37 runs and some wickets in each innings.

LUCKLESS DRAGONS IN GRAND FINAL LOSSES
I am not sure there is a precise formula to winning grand finals but one thing you do need is your share of luck. Unfortunately that part of it deserted the Dragons’ teams last weekend as did the extra 50 runs on the first day that may have seen the results go our way.
Great year St George Cricket Club – two grand final appearances has never been done before and in losing but still fighting it out and played in the highest spirit of the game was, indeed, outstanding. Congratulations to all.

The last game of the season is upon us and it is a one dayer this week.
The season so far has been another good one for the Dragons - leading into the final round the A grade side can finish anywhere from 1st to 3rd depending on results whilst the B grade side are guaranteed top spot. For the second year running we will have both of our sides in the finals - GO THE DRAGONS. One of the finals game will be played at Urrbrae this Saturday and Sunday if anyone is interested in coming down to watch.
ROUND 9 RESULTS
This game was unfortunately a non-event due to extreme hot weather in the 2nd week of play. However in week 1 of the game both of our sides batted and did very well. A grade posted a score of 221 with main scorers being Gould 66, Price 41 and Keeley 38. B grade hit 283 in an interesting scorecard with only 3 guys making double figures Kev Winning 84, Farrell 55 and O'Neil 16 - North Haven bowlers helped out with extras being 54.
Raffle result - This round was a JACKPOT due to the Round 8 game being called off due to weather so double prize money was on offer. Perhaps it is fitting that we also had double winners this round with Jimmy Walker (Bullock 31 and Gould 66) and Tony Rose (M. Broomhead 13 and K. Winning 84) both posting scores of 97 and they collect $110 each.
ROUND 10 RESULTS
This game ended up being a one dayer and unfortunately for the club our sides could only manage one win with A grade snaring the points.
A grade posted 151 and managed to restrict the opposition to 140 off their 40 overs. Layton Gould was the standout hitting 35 with 6 other players making it to double figures. B grade batted first and made 175 thanks to some nice late hitting from A. Johnson 33 and Rule 21 plus knocks from Maloney 34, K.Winning 33 and S.Winning 27. Unfortunately our bowlers could not do the job and they easily passed our score.
Raffle result - Lucky winner this round is Andrew Lock - 2 ticket just pipping Jeff Kahl for top prize. Lock A collects $80 with a score of 69 points (Maloney 34 & Gould 35) whilst Jeff gets $30 with a score of 68 points (K. Winning 33 & Gould 35).

There was no raffle draw this round as the B grade side had a bye.
An excellent round for the A grade boys who scored themselves an outright win on the first day. They bowled Western Youth out for 23 in their first innings and then SGCC piled on 100 runs in 15 overs before declaring and rolled Western Youth a second time in the day for 39 runs. Antony Baum also scored himself some runs with 53 but the standout player on the day was Jimmy Walker with a 6 wicket haul in each innings to end up with 12 wickets for the day. In the first innings Jimmy got a double hat-trick and in the second innings just missed out on another hat trick when he took 3 wickets in 4 balls. A great return from Jimmy.
If both sides can continue on their winning form then we should have two sides in the finals for a second year in a row - GO DRAGONS
